Under the moon2The night watches with bated breath as the winter moon claims the sky. The stars shun away and recede in corners as the moonlight extends its white blanket and the ground sweats out the beads of dew. The sultry mist rises from a distance seducing the clouds to stoop and blend in. From over the hedge, the jasmine blooms impregnate the air with their sweet, heady fragrance, inciting the senses, blurring the lines of this world.

Let’s bring out a rug and a blanket from the house and lie down on the porch. Let’s kindle a small fire and talk to the heavens above. Maybe I will play a song that our hearts once danced to. If you can read the touch of my fingers and decipher the notes of our breath, you will see how blessed we are, to be able to paint words on each other’s backs. Let’s stay here like this and watch the day be born out of the night’s womb. Let’s stay till the time the Sun rises and burns the sky amber and breaks the magic spell.

Under the moon tonight, let me swing you around, moving with the music of the leaves, rustling under our feet. Maybe, someday it will all make sense and we will walk under this moonlight again, holding a cup of honey brew in our hands and allowing the words to take over.

But tonight, let’s just look out for a falling star and make a wish and seek heaven’s forgiveness. Let’s promise ourselves to break free, to only meet again, fall out to only hold each other once more. Let’s just spend the night in silence, away from the world and its rules, whispering to ourselves, sharing a single dream.

Be there when I call out your name tonight and the twinkling stars beacon. I will wait in the shadows, by the river, under the winter moon.
